FitsAir Launches Direct Ahmedabad–Colombo Flights from 19 June

Sri Lankan private carrier FitsAir launches a new direct service between Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo from 19 June 2026. The route operates three times weekly and reduces the journey time between western India and Sri Lanka from up to nine hours — with stopovers previously required — to approximately three hours.

The Ahmedabad–Colombo route is part of a wider push to strengthen direct air links between Sri Lanka and India, the island’s largest source market for tourist arrivals. For travellers based in Gujarat and the broader western Indian region, it removes the need to connect through Mumbai or Chennai, both of which add cost and connection time.

Why This Matters for Sri Lanka Travel

India accounts for the single largest share of inbound visitors to Sri Lanka, and the new frequency from Ahmedabad taps into a catchment area — Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra’s interior — that previously lacked a direct routing. The three-times-weekly schedule means travellers can plan four- to seven-night itineraries without uncomfortable return logistics.

June also marks the opening of the east coast season. While the southwest of the island — including Colombo and Mirissa — enters its monsoon months, the east coast from Trincomalee to Arugam Bay moves into its driest stretch, offering excellent beach and surf conditions. A direct arrival into Colombo followed by a four-hour drive east remains the most efficient way to reach the coast.

Booking and Visa Information

FitsAir is a Sri Lankan-registered operator running a fleet of Airbus aircraft. Tickets can be booked directly through the airline or via online flight search. The route launches June 19, with fares competitive with connecting itineraries.

Citizens of India are among the nationalities now eligible for a fee-waived Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), effective from 25 May 2026.
