Airport terminal departure gates - Edelweiss Air expands Zurich to Colombo frequency for winter 2026-27

Edelweiss Air has opened its winter 2026-27 schedule between Zurich and Colombo with three weekly departures, up from two flights per week last season. The Swiss leisure airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, began the new winter rotation on 26 October 2026, with departures from Zurich on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The service runs through to May 2027.

What Changes for Travellers

The added frequency gives Swiss, German, and Austrian travellers three departure days per week where previously only two were available. Connections via Zurich are also accessible from across the Lufthansa Group network, meaning travellers from Germany and Austria can connect through Frankfurt, Munich, or Vienna onto the Edelweiss service.

Zurich is Edelweiss’s only hub, so the route operates on a single-stop basis for most European passengers. Flight time from Zurich to Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is approximately 10.5 hours.

Edelweiss operates long-haul flights with an Airbus A340-300, offering economy and business class cabins. The aircraft is configured for leisure travel rather than full-service corporate use, so expect a leisure-oriented product with reasonable base fares and paid extras for seat selection and upgrades.

Timing for Sri Lanka Visitors

The winter 2026-27 season aligns well with Sri Lanka’s best weather on the west and south coasts. December through March is peak season along the beach strip from Negombo south to Tangalle and Mirissa, with calmer seas and reliable sunshine. Our best time to visit Sri Lanka guide covers how the two monsoon systems divide the island’s seasons.

For anyone flying in from Europe on this route, the Colombo airport guide covers arrivals, the express highway into the city, and options for connecting onwards to the south coast or hill country.

European travellers looking at the full picture of routes into Sri Lanka this winter can compare options in our flights to Sri Lanka guide, which covers airlines, routing options, and typical fare ranges for the season.

Colombo airport connects to all the main tourist regions. Trains to Kandy depart from Colombo Fort station, while coaches and private transfers serve Galle, Ella, and the south coast. Journey times vary but Galle by expressway is around 2 hours.

Edelweiss seats for the winter 2026-27 season can be booked via the airline’s own site or through Lufthansa Group booking channels. Travellers from the UK or elsewhere in Europe without a direct onward option should compare fares carefully, as connecting via Zurich may or may not be competitive depending on origin.
