Airport terminal departure gates - SriLankan Airlines Melbourne 10 weekly flights November 2026

SriLankan Airlines is increasing its Colombo-Melbourne service from 7 to 10 weekly flights starting 15 November 2026. The expansion, originally planned for 2 August before being rescheduled, adds three extra frequencies in both directions and comes just as travellers from Australia begin booking their December and January summer-holiday trips to Sri Lanka.

What is changing

From 15 November, the route moves from seven to ten weekly connections between Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) and Melbourne Tullamarine (MEL). The three additional services bring the schedule close to a daily option in each direction, reducing the planning constraint of limited departure days that has historically made the Australia-Sri Lanka corridor less flexible than routes from Europe or the Middle East.

SriLankan operates the route with widebody aircraft - typically the Airbus A330. The flight time is approximately 11-12 hours in each direction with no stop. The airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance, so miles and status can be earned and redeemed through British Airways Avios, American Airlines AAdvantage, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, and other Oneworld partner programmes.

Why the timing matters

The November 15 launch date is well-placed for Australian travellers. December and January represent Sri Lanka’s peak season on the southwest coast - Colombo, Galle, Mirissa and Unawatuna see their driest, sunniest weather. The east coast, by contrast, is in its off-season. If you are planning a southwest-focused itinerary over the Australian summer holidays, the extra seats should ease pricing pressure compared with the constrained 7-weekly schedule.

For Australian travellers with flexibility on dates, the increase also makes it easier to find a fare that connects cleanly with domestic Australian flights into Melbourne. Travellers from Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth can connect through Melbourne Tullamarine, though a check on transit timing and checked baggage rules is worthwhile before booking.

Booking and practical details

Fares on the Melbourne-Colombo sector have been running from approximately AUD 700-1,000 return in economy when booked in advance. December and January are peak pricing periods, so booking earlier tends to give the best combination of fare and seat choice. The SriLankan website and the major fare aggregators are the best places to compare live pricing across all carriers serving the route.
